pondering ...
Ecclesiastes 11
1 Cast your bread upon the waters,
for after many days you will find it again.2 Give portions to seven, yes to eight, for you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.
3 If clouds are full of water,
they pour rain upon the earth.
Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north,
in the place where it falls, there will it lie.4 Whoever watches the wind will not plant;
whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.5 As you do not know the path of the wind,
or how the body is formed in a mother's womb,
so you cannot understand the work of God,
the Maker of all things.

"after many days you will find it again" sticks out to me and says there won't be an immediate result/return but rather, waiting expectantly, trustfully, and with surety.
"give portions to seven, yes eight" seems like God is asking us to stretch our "normal" benevolence to the point of almost questioning the wisdom of it and/or requiring a tremendously focused giving rather than the "automatic" charity we might normally give?
V. 3 has me stumped
V. 4 is telling me to keep my focus (although I'm not sure where/on what). Maybe, don't look at the effects of things but instead keep a steady gaze on the Creator of those things? Hmmmm
I know you weren't asking for a commentary, btw, but I think He's speaking to me through this, so thanks for posting it.
:)
OMG.... I'm gonna need some wine while sitting with you to contemplate this! Â Heavvvvvvvvy.
@lass2569 - i appreciate your 'unsolicited commentary'.
:)
in vs.3 i see a reminder that there are simply things God has set in motion -- and they are in His control. He knows the way things roll -- and -- He doesn't really need me to try to control things for Him ....
@SeamlessIntegration - ohhh alllll riiiiight! ;-D
Deep pondering here.
@stephensmustang - well ... i'm workin on it anyway!
Alex and I were reading this morning from 1 Cor.1:25 about even if God was dumb, he would still be smarter than us. And even if He were weak, He'd still be stronger than us. Somehow, this passage connects with that in my brain. I think it's the whole reason why I find so much comfort in rules...God's rules anyway.
v.4-5...make me think of how I should do my part not just sit around and wait for goodness to come to me...whether I understand it or not and then God will give me everything else I need to get it done.
@debbiearnn - yes ... i think that rings true. i see a lot of 'acceptance' in this passage -- of who God is, how He created us, our part in it etc .....
